World Class Gravity®

FTG uses one of the most sophisticated instruments ever developed to measure changes in the earth’s gravity field. Data from these instruments, combined with expert acquisition and processing specialists, allow Bell Geospace to image density features within the earth in much greater detail than typical airborne and ship borne gravity surveys. When compared to ground surveys, large areas can be surveyed quickly and economically.

3-D FTG is an abbreviation for Three-Dimensional Full Tensor Gradient technology. The 3-D FTG acquisition system is being applied to the mining and oil & gas industry by Bell Geospace. Bell Geospace's 3D FTG acquisition system takes ultra sensitive real-time measurements of small gravity changes (gradients) caused by density differences in all directions. Gradient data can be directly related to geological structures.

The 3-D FTG system accurately measures extremely small changes in subsurface densities in all directions at prospect level resolution. Both the gravitational field and its gradient can be directly related to geological structures and anomalous densities such as salt, massive sulfides or kimberlites. Five independent tensor measurements are taken as a routine part of the gradient data gathering process. These tensor components offer both qualifiable and quantifiable physical data, constraining your seismic, magnetic, or gravity data. When used in conjunction with other geological data, FTG technology helps to confirm the true geometry of a geological shape well before drilling. By doing so, 3-D FTG data constrains your models and confirms accuracy.
